So, I'm going all nutso trying to come up with posts to make to hopefully start conversations and raise our rating on Google and get us more members who search for Halo Wars stuff. [shrugs] I'm a little fuzzy on the whole deal.
But anyway, after I noticed Admiral Hood's Medal of Honor in a Halo 3 cutscene I dropped by Halopedia. And when I went by the Master Chief's page, I immediately went "what the f***?"
According to them, under some reasoning that's not entirely clear to me, John is the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy?
Which isn't really that odd in a lot of ways. He's the right age, and he's enlisted...
But on the other hand, at least in the USN, MCPON is basically a PR rank. The guy goes around talking to enlisted men and advising the CNO and crap. Which doesn't really make much sense for John-117 to be doing, since he spends most of his time going around killing bad guys and, as near as I can tell, doesn't spend all that much time interacting with your average, run-of-the-mill, Navy enlisted.
Sure, he spends lots of time with Marines and ODSTs, but he's the MCPO of the NAVY. And anyway, when he's with the Marines and ODSTs he's usually too busy killing aliens to go talk to the CNO or Fleet Admiral or whatever about how the Marines would really like some heavier armor and a battle tank for every man.
Does this make sense to anyone else?
EDIT: Actually, it says the rank is posthumous. Which kinda-sorta-makes-sense-if-you-want-to-look-at-it-that-way.
